The Kairos Quartet
The Berlin-based Kairos Quartet (string quartet) performs landmark compositions written after 1950, and pioneering music of today.
Since its founding in 1996, the Kairos Quartett has evolved into one of the internationally acclaimed flagship ensembles in the contemporary music scene. Numerous world premieres of contemporary compositions, alongside meticulously crafted interpretations of dramaturgically compelling programs—often curated in close collaboration with composers and organizers—have led to accolades such as the German Record Critics’ Award (Haas Quartets) and enabled the ensemble to build a global career. This includes performances at prestigious events such as the Venice Biennale, Cervantino Festival in Mexico, Darmstadt International Summer Courses, Festival d’Automne in Paris, MaerzMusik, Salzburg Festival, Warsaw Autumn, and Wien Modern.
Before the pandemic, the quartet made its debut at the "SoundBridge" festival in Malaysia and at Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie in the NDR series "Das Neue Werk" with Unsuk Chin and toured China in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, the quartet performed at the Centro Ricerche Musicali in Rome. In 2022, the Kairos Quartett presented the nationwide concert series LUFT I WURZELN in Germany, featuring five different exciting programs.
