The Kairos Quartet presents the fifth installment of their ongoing Work in Progress series, 51% – Amazing Music by Women, this time supported by sound designer Andre Bartetzki.

Johanniskirche
Ludwig-Sandberg-Straße 5
16225 Eberswalde

PROGRAM
Bára Gísladóttir [1989, IcelandOtoconia [String Quartet with Electronics, 2017]

Younghi Pagh-Paan [1945, Korea/Germany] Horizont auf hoher See / Horizon on the High Seas [2016]

Carola Bauckholt [1959, GermanyLichtung [2011]

Sarah Nemtsov [1980, GermanyWeggeschliffen [String Quartet with Amplification and Effects, 2018]

For this fifth edition of their Work in Progress, the Kairos Quartet curates an impressive selection of compositions by women composers. The works explore themes of physicality and tension, often expanding the ensemble with electronic elements and preparations.

Experience the naturalistic soundscape of Bauckholt’s Lichtung, filled with bird and insect sounds; embark on a surprising journey into the inner ear with Gísladóttir’s Otoconia; enjoy the distorted sounds and reverberant spaces in Nemtsov’s Weggeschliffen, enhanced with electronics and preparations; and feel the vastness of Horizon on the High Seas by Pagh-Paan, who celebrates her 80th birthday this year.

The Kairos Quartet navigates these sonic worlds—where sound is felt as much as heard—constantly in motion, teetering on the edge of tension and resolution. Their performance is characterized by a delicate sensitivity to texture, dynamic contrast, and spatial perception.

Due to the illness of our dear colleague Alexa Renger, Fiona Milla Jäntti will perform the violin part!

This event is supported by the MWFK Brandenburg and the Musikfonds.

Admission is free.
