Sound Walk Vermessene Zeit

15. June | 14:45 16:00

As part of Klanglandschaften 2025, the Kairos Quartet, together with the Śabdagatitāra Ensemble, presents Sandeep Bhagwati’s conceptual piece Vermessene Zeit (Measured Time).

Music gives time a measure – we gauge in it the seemingly eternal flow. Landscapes are also measured to better understand their proportions and shapes. In Bhagwati’s musical journey Vermessene Zeit, both are experienced: As sonorous land surveyors, the musicians of the Śabdagatitāra Ensemble and the Kairos Quartet venture onto a forest meadow in Hobrechtsfelde. Always, only three of them perform within a wide triangle, whose center is naturally the best place for listening. At some point, one corner of the trio falls silent – but then, a different instrument or voice farther away begins, reuniting the music into a new triangle. However, its center has shifted – to continue listening to everything, you must move there!

In this way, the sounds gradually measure the space – and the audience moves along, listening to how our human harmonies and dissonances blend with the songs of wind, leaves, grass, insects, and birds. Along the way, poems can be picked up by the roadside, celebrating the earth, trees, and the sounds of the world – some of which can be given to the musicians for inspiration. Bhagwati’s Komprovisation invites us to spend an afternoon exploring the surroundings of the granary in Hobrechtsfelde as a poetic, resonant landscape that has been sleeping here since time immemorial.
